Orbs are made of broken glass, sections of fairy lights and sometimes other interesting found items which are set in epoxy resin. Upholstery nails are usually used for the electrical contact points. The process of creating an orb has a randomness to it. I choose the ingredients and try to influence the outcome, but don't really know how it will turn out. Each orb reveals itself only after the resin has had a day and night of hardening.
Some orbs are made with purchased "stained glass" supplies. As with the bases, it is most satisfying for me if I can use items that I have "found" or repurposed from something else, which for glass means shards found on the ground during walks or colorful glass taken from old lamps, bottles, glasses, jars, or windows purchased at flee markets or from private online sellers.
Orbs are usually "untethered" - they have contacts on the bottom and can be placed interchangeably on bases or turned so that they are on or off.
